About us
Who we are
We are a team of youth change-makers who believe in community connection through creativity.
Stellar Wonderz is a 501(c)3 student-led nonprofit dedicated to giving hope to all of the stars in our community. Hospitals can be a challenging place for individuals and their families, especially for those who lack visitors and have to stay long-term. Our organization aims to aid them in their experience and brighten their days through creativity–small acts of kindness. We accomplish this by donating a variety of crafts and craft kits, such as star bundles, bracelets, bracelet kits, cards and more, and creating custom creations for nominated patients. Our crafts show patients that they are not alone, and they have thousands of people around the world forever rooting for them and their journey. Our goal is to provide Wonderz to all veterans, elders, children, and other individuals who may need them and illuminate their lives.
One of our unique crafts, star bundles, contain paper stars with uplifting handwritten messages. Paper stars come from a Japanese legend about a girl named Hoshi.
Hoshi loved the stars and was sad one night when she saw stars falling from the sky. To save them, she made paper stars and put them in a jar, one for every star that fell. She went to the village, told the other children what was happening, and all of them made paper stars together. Hoshi told them, “Whenever a lucky star is made, a falling star is saved.”
Lucky stars are now often folded with wishes for luck and good fortune. They can be given as gifts for good luck and love. The star bundles will also be given as signs of good luck and love. By donating them to patients in need, they will remind the receivers that we’ll eternally support them, be on their side, care about them, and wish them good luck on whatever comes their way.
Our History
Our founder and CEO, Janne Guo, started Stellar Wonderz after her own experiences with hospital stays. Growing up, she spent a lot of time with her cousin, who shared her exact birthday and was like a sister to her. Her cousin fought childhood cancer, and though it was a difficult journey, their time together was always filled with creativity, whether it was doing art together or learning traditional Chinese dance. Despite the difficulties of chemotherapy, art and creativity was a safe space for both her and her cousin.
Janne continued to explore creative ways to connect with others. Through traditional Chinese dance, she performed for nursing home elders and shared her culture with her community. In middle school, she decided to pick up her love for paper stars again. She would continue using folding paper stars as an outlet for connection. She’d draw smiley faces on them and give them to friends, who would light up every time they received one. Soon, her friends began folding stars too, passing them along to others and spreading the same joy. The results of these simple acts that stayed consistent throughout Janne’s life showed her how creativity could bring people together as a powerful movement.
She began to see paper stars as more than just crafts—they were symbols of connection and hope. Wanting to share that feeling with more people, Janne started writing encouraging messages inside each star before folding them. These stars became our first Star Bundles, now enjoyed by patients across our hospital and charity partners.
As Stellar Wonderz grew, new creative opportunities were added to better meet the needs of those we serve. We don’t just create; we listen. Janne and our global team of volunteers remain dedicated to the same mission that started it all: spreading comfort, creativity, engagement, and connection to those who need it most.
